Scale & Corrosion Inhibition Products

Performance & Sustainability

Trinity's lineup of scale & corrosion inhibitors are designed for optimal performance in a variety of water systems, including boilers, water filtration systems like Reverse Osmosis and Ultrafilters, open recirculating cooling systems, closed loop cooling systems, and once-through water systems. Our formulations are engineered to prevent scale formation, enhance system efficiency, and safely remove existing deposits.

Corrosion Protection

Our scale inhibitors utilize multiple synergistic mechanisms to prevent the formation and deposition of mineral scale, such as calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate, on heat transfer surfaces:

Threshold Inhibition: Prevents scale formation at concentrations far below      the stoichiometric requirement by interfering with the precipitation process.

Crystal Growth Modification: Adsorbs onto the surface of nascent scale crystals, distorting their structure and inhibiting further growth and aggregation.

Dispersion of Particulates: Imparts electrostatic charges to scale nuclei, preventing their aggregation and keeping them suspended in the water phase.

Chelation/Sequestration: Binds with hardness ions (e.g., Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺), increasing their solubility and preventing them from forming insoluble precipitates.

Surface Passivation: Forms a protective film on metal surfaces, reducing the tendency for scale and corrosion to occur.

Corrosion Protection

Corrosion inhibition products are tailored to the specific metallurgy of your water system components to ensure optimal system protection and compatibility in your operation.

Film Formation: Corrosion inhibitors form a protective barrier on metal surfaces, reducing direct contact with corrosive agents such as oxygen, chlorides, and acids.

Anodic and Cathodic Inhibition: Select chemistries suppress either the anodic or cathodic reactions involved in corrosion, minimizing metal loss and pitting.

Passivation: Certain inhibitors promote the formation of stable, passive oxide layers on metals, especially on steel and iron, to prevent further oxidation.

Oxygen Scavenging: For systems prone to oxygen ingress, oxygen scavengers are included to chemically remove dissolved oxygen, a primary driver of corrosion in boilers and closed loops.

Scale Removal & System Maintenance

Trinity's scale removal and system maintenance products are formulated to remove scale & mineral deposits as well as treating waxy & oily substances with our unique dispersant technologies.

Surfactant Action: Dispersants contain surfactant molecules with hydrophilic (water-attracting) and oleophilic (oil-attracting) ends. When applied, these molecules migrate to the oil/water or wax/water interface, reducing interfacial tension and allowing wax and oil deposits to break into fine droplets or particles that remain suspended in the water phase.

Solubilization and Emulsification: The dispersant’s solvent component helps dissolve and mobilize waxes and oils, while surfactants stabilize the resulting droplets, preventing re-agglomeration and redeposition on system surfaces.

Prevention of Agglomeration: By adsorbing onto wax and oil particles, dispersants inhibit their tendency to stick together or adhere to metal surfaces, thus maintaining system cleanliness and flow efficiency.

Enhanced Cleaning Synergy: When used in conjunction with acid cleaning, dispersants improve the penetration and removal of mixed organic/inorganic deposits, ensuring more complete cleaning of heat exchangers, piping, and other equipment.
